More about Pendant lamps

A pendant lamp is usually the first thing that stands out in a room, and at the same time the most difficult to hang correctly. Two things determine whether it works: the height above the surface and the relationship between the lamp and the furniture underneath. We carry pendant lamps with E27 and GU10 fittings, and models with integrated LED for above a dining table.

At what height do you hang it?

Above a dining table, you maintain approximately 75 to 90 centimeters between the tabletop and the bottom of the lamp. Lower and you'll be looking into it; higher and the light will scatter across the room instead of focusing on the table. Above a kitchen island, it can be slightly higher, around 80 to 100 centimeters, because you stand there instead of sit.

One lamp or several?

Above a round table, one lamp in the middle works best. Above a long table or a kitchen island, hang two or three at equal distances, with about sixty centimeters between them. A bar model with multiple light points in one fixture does the same and saves drilling.

Fitting and light source

With E27, you have the most choice in lamps — from filament for a visible glow to smart. GU10 provides a more focused beam and is more pleasant if the light needs to fall downwards onto the surface. Most of our pendant lamps do not include a light source, so you can determine the light color and wattage yourself.

On rail or fixed point

Are you stuck with one central ceiling box but want two or three lamps? Then a rail system is the simplest solution: you hang the lamps on the rail and slide them to where you want them. We have pendant lamps for both 1-phase and 3-phase rails.

Also called a pendel or pendant light

A pendant lamp is also called a pendel, pendellamp or dining table pendant lamp in trade if it is intended for that. The English term is pendant light, or pendant lamp. If it hangs on a rail system, it is referred to as a rail pendant lamp or track pendant. A long bar shape like our Baro is also called a linear pendant lamp or linear pendant.

Frequently Asked Questions

What light color above the dining table?

2700K or 3000K. This is warm light that makes food look good and remains pleasant in the evening. 4000K and higher works in a workspace, but above a dining table, it quickly becomes cold.

Can I adjust the height later?

With most models, yes: the cord or rod can be shortened or adjusted in height during installation. Check the dimensions for each product for the maximum hanging height.

Is a pendant lamp dimmable?

That is determined by the light source, not the fixture — except for models with integrated LED, where it is stated in the specifications. If you install a lamp yourself, choose a dimmable LED and a Triac dimmer; see Which dimmer works with our spotlights.

How heavy can a pendant lamp be for my ceiling?

In a concrete ceiling, almost anything is possible with the right plug. In a plasterboard ceiling, you need to drill into the framework or use a hollow wall anchor rated for the weight. The weight is stated for each product.
